Dumb move: You’re basically accusing this, Why aren’t you been answering my emails?
Please send your message again after [this date].Stoicism, a philosophical outlook that developed around 300 BC, slowly grew to become the dominant philosophy of the ancient “Western” world. By 161 AD none other than Marcus Aurelius, the emperor of the Roman Empire was a practising Stoic.Smart Move: Re-establish the relationship by doing research on your erstwhile colleague and then show some curiosity about that colleague. Trade emails a couple of times, then segue to your request. More about re-establishing relationships via email.
Cato is upheld as having led an ideal Stoic life. He was a Roman senator, and during his service, he was renowned, infamous even, for his immunity to bribery and corruption. When Julius Caesar took Rome by force, ending the Republic, Cato objected in the strongest terms possible.
There’s no costume that requires the commitment and imagination of a White person dressing up as the central figure in a Black story. If you’re looking for costume inspirations, just check The Help, Green Book, Mississippi Burning, or history textbooks.AUTOREPLY: I am out of the office but thank you for your message. But how can you know whether your actions support each other unless you reason about them? Summarizing the Stoic view on the topic, the ancient historian Diogenes Laertius writes:It’s time for the church to wake up! Cultural Christianity doesn’t produce life-long Christians. Give me a church where we can be real with each other. Give me a church where ‘being’ is more important that ‘doing.’ Give me a church where I can express my doubts without being condemned. Give me a church where it is emotionally safe to share. Give me a church where manipulation is not needed because the real Christ is far too compelling to need a sales pitch. Give me a church for Jon Steingard.
It was not until 2005 that Grove retired from Intel. That happened to be the same year that Paul Otellini took over as CEO. Things seemed to be off to an auspicious start for Intel and Otellini — Apple, whose Mac business was on a tear at the time — was basically the only desktop computer manufacturer that was a holdout from the x86 world that Intel represented.
Rather than live in an unjust society, one ruled by an unelected tyrant, Cato took his own life. In doing so, he became a martyr for the cause of freedom. Later, it was Cato’s son-in-law, Brutus, who dealt the final blow in Caesar’s murder.
The most prevalent costume from the past four years has been that of “economic anxiety.” Remember that stance that swore that people voted for 45 because they were tired of losing out on money — but then they kept supporting him, despite the biggest economic crash of our lifetimes? Someone get Scooby-Doo on this case.
If there’s one thing that we’ve learned in 2020, it’s that White people love pretending to be Black women. They like making up names for themselves, they like creating backstories that are based on Tyler Perry scripts. It’s like Dungeons and Dragons but, you know, racist.
White people love pretending that they are just walking around in between moments of cancelation. They’re either about to be canceled or just got canceled — both of which ignore the fact that they’ll be enjoying the rest of their lives consequence-free.
There’s nothing White people love more than jumping in front of traffic and directing it. If there’s a fender bender or an old lady with a sprained ankle in the middle of the road, there’s always a Civil Engineer Stu who jumps out of the bushes and starts telling cars when to stop and go, acting like they understand traffic flow.

When I did attend church, I would often look around the room at the other people present and what I observed was that people seemed overwhelmingly bored — especially during the hour-long oration from the so-called expert in the pulpit. So, I stopped attending church, now I’m closer to God.
Many of the reasons that he left the faith, are the same reasons that I left the Church. Unlike Steingard, I have not given up my faith because, free from the constraint of organized religion, I have found it personally life-giving and existentially satisfying. Perhaps Steingard was unable to separate his faith from his religious activity, as much as I hate to suggest it. His dislike of one, lead him to forsake the other. I can only hope that God finds Jon Steingard again as he journeys through his spiritual wilderness.
Dumb Move: “Hey, long time no see. I hope you’re staying safe! Hey, I was wondering if you could do something for me…” Your email will just be deleted because you don’t have a relationship with this person any longer and therefore don’t have the right (or have lost the right) to ask a favor.
I would hate to see anyone come to believe that Christianity consists of Bible reading, prayer and singing worship songs. Because Christianity is — first and foremost — about being, not doing. If one ever feels like they are not “doing” what good Christians are supposed to do, it sounds alarm bells for me. None of my children are my children because of what they do for me and neither would I say to them, “You are not my children anymore because you didn’t do your chores.” Preposterous!

Problem: You’re taking some time off and don’t want to start your first day back responding to a huge pile of emails. This is perfectly reasonable because time off is time off, not just stockpiling the work you would have done so you can do it when you get back.
Indeed, that deal between Apple and Intel was more important for Intel than it could have ever possibly realized. But it wasn’t because Intel had sewn up the last of the desktop computer processor market. Instead, it was because Intel had just developed a relationship with a company that was thinking about what was coming next. And when Apple were figuring out how to power it — and by it, I’m talking about the iPhone — they came to their new partner, Intel, for first right of refusal to design the chips to do.
Dumb Move: “I’m away from the office and have limited access to email but I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!” This is the email equivalent of hitting yourself in the head with a ball-peen hammer.
At the heart of their philosophy is a simple idea: a good life, a “happy” one in our colloquial sense, is one where all your actions support each other and would be compatible with other people acting likewise.
There’s nothing a White person loves like crediting a fellow White person with an idea they had no part in originating. This goes out to every Jennerdashian, as well as every journalist who has credited them with inventing things like box braids or curves or mahogany skin.
